On April 10, 2023, the two teams met on Utica’s turf for the 2023 Eastern Conference Semifinals Play-in game. An unsettled four quarters forced overtime where Utica gained the 7-6 win to advance.
The Comets and City FC met three times during the regular season, splitting the first two games. Then on January 12, history repeated itself, this time at Cable Dahmer Arena. The teams needed overtime once again to settle the score and Utica emerged the victor, with the all-familiar score - 7-6. History repeating itself for the two teams.
Last night, in Game One at the Cable Dahmer Arena the teams once again found themselves gridlocked at the end of four quarters. Kansas City Comets captain Ignacio Flores found the back of the net for the golden goal just 27 seconds into overtime electrifying the Comets faithful. Now all eyes of the MASL shift to Northern NY for the exciting finale.
Long-time voice of the City, Ray Biggs will share the broadcast booth with Kansas City’s own Erik Begrud. A fan-first pairing that brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the call.
"I'm super excited to be a part of this telecast," Biggs said. "To share this moment with Erik makes it even better for me. He's truly one of the best personalities this sport has to offer and I've always wanted to work with him. We're looking forward to telling the story of this match and this series while sharing our enthusiasm for this great game."
Erik added, “I became an indoor soccer fan as a teenager, so being invited to announce this game is an honor and a responsibility I take seriously. I respect and enjoy listening to Biggsy call games at the iconic Adirondack Bank Center and cannot wait to join him Monday evening. These two teams will put on an incredible show for our viewers.”
The MASL first appeared on CBS Sports Golazo Network on Sunday, March 17 when the visiting San Diego Sockers took down the Empire Strykers 11 to 5.
