KANSAS CITY (February 17, 2021) – The Kansas City Comets announced today that defender, James Togbah has re-signed with the club for the remainder of the 2021 MASL season while on loan from Utica FC. Per team and league policies, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Togbah, from Monrovia, Liberia, began his MASL career with the Comets in 2017, appearing in 12 games. His breakout year came the following season (2018-19) when he appeared in 23 games for the Comets, scoring 18 goals to go along with 8 assists for 26 points, and was second in the league that year with 8 power play goals. With Utica FC last season, Togbah appeared in 16 games, scoring 1 goal with 2 assists. Togbah is on loan from Utica FC, which recently announced that the club will not be participating in the 2021 MASL season.

“I am excited to be back with all these familiar faces,” Togbah said. “I just want to help do my part to make something special happen for our fans, and winning a championship would be a great way to come back and do that.”

Togbah was in Kansas City for the first ever MASL All Star Game representing the East squad back on December 5th at Cable Dahmer Arena. The West team won the match by a score of 9-4.

“James is a player who we are very familiar with,” said Comets Managing Partner, Brian Budzinski. “We need another strong & talented defender as Kyle McLagan heads back overseas to play in Iceland. We appreciate Tommy Tanner and Coach Hall for allowing us to have James on loan for the remainder of the 2021 MASL Season as we compete for a championship.”

James Togbah will be in uniform this weekend as the Comets host the Dallas Sidekicks for a weekend series on Friday, February 19 at 7pm and Sunday, February 21 at 5pm.
