COMETS CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON AGAINST RIVAL WAVE

by Jeff Husted

Kansas City Comets and the Milwaukee Wave close out the regular season in a match that has no meaning other than pride. Both teams have clinched their playoff spots and will face off again in four days in the postseason.

For the Comets, they look to this game as a chance to rest some players, gain experience for some others and keep their momentum they've built over the last half of the season. Neither side will want to show too much and will want to keep all of their players injury-free.

Goalkeeper Mark Saxby is expected to start Sunday's match but backup goalkeeper Steven Hamersky will likely get to see some action. Also expected to see some extended playing time are Byron Alvarez, Mirko Sandivari, Gui Gomes and Robert Kelly.

Defender James Togbah will be sitting this game out due to reaching the penalty-point accumulation limit set by the league. His suspension is just one game and he will be available for the playoffs.

Forward Leo Gibson, midfielder Lucas Rodriguez and defender Kevin Ellis will not be making the trip this weekend as they rest and prepare for the playoffs.
