Kansas City (November 25, 2020) - The Kansas City Comets announced today that they have extended the contract of long-time defender, John Sosa, through the 2022-2023 season. Per team and league policies, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Sosa, recently announced as a member of the East squad for the MASL All-Star game on December, 5th at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, MO, has been manning the Comets’ backline since 2011, minus a one season stint with the San Diego Sockers in 2017-18. All totaled, Sosa has appeared in 169 games, scoring 73 goals to go along with 120 assists.

“John has historically been one of the top defenders and playmakers in this league, said Comets Managing Partner, Brian Budzinski.” He battled through some injuries last season, and we expect him to regain his form and help lead us to a championship season.”

In 2013, Sosa helped push the Comets to the team’s first and only Major Indoor Soccer League Championship. Later that same year, he went on to win the Four Nations Cup with the 2013 United States Futsal National team in England.

“It means a lot to finish out my career as a Kansas City Comet,” Sosa said. “My dream has always been to have my daughter see me play professionally, and this extension means that she will.”

Before his professional career, Sosa played collegiately for the University of Missouri - Kansas City, where he was a three-time All-Summit League player. In addition to his Comets duties, Sosa also serves as the Head Coach of the Benedictine Raven Men’s soccer team.
