The Kansas City Comets are back at Cable Dahmer Arena on Saturday night for an exciting night of indoor soccer as they play host to the St. Louis Ambush for the sixth and final round of the I-70 Series this season.
More than 40 celebrities will provide the halftime entertainment as Team Vasos, led by Comets play-by-play commentator Nick Vasos, battles against Team Serrano, led by Comets emcee Steve Serrano, in the annual Celebrity/Media Game. The list of celebrities and media can be found at the bottom.
The Comets enter Saturday’s contest coming from a 9-8 overtime defeat on the road against the Milwaukee Wave.
The Comets will be without the services of John Sosa who will be serving a one-game suspension due to penalty point accumulation following a blue card he was shown on Sunday in Milwaukee. That will be a big hole to fill for the Comets as Sosa is among the team’s offensive leaders with 20 points from 12 assists and eight goals.
While Sosa is dominant from set pieces, Ray Lee has also shown his abilities from restarts. All seven of Lee’s points have come from his last two games, where his left foot has been especially deadly from restarts at the top of the arc.
The Comets currently have the edge in the season series 3-2, winning both matchups at Cable Dahmer Arena in November and December.
The Ambush will be looking to split the season series with a win on Saturday.
After an overtime win against the Comets in St. Louis on January 20, the Ambush lost both games on their trip to Mexico suffering an 11-4 loss to the Chihuahua Savage and a 7-4 loss to the Monterrey Flash.
The Ambush is led offensively by Robert Kristo, who has 13 points from nine goals and four assists. The St. Louis University product has been a thorn in the Comets’ side this season with seven points, including three goals in his most recent visit to Cable Dahmer Arena in December.
Assisting Kristo is the Ambush trio consisting of William Eskay, Duduca Carvalho and Lucas Almeida, who have combined for 26 points from 15 goals and 11 assists.
Both teams are battling for a spot in the playoffs with the sixth-place Ambush on the outside looking in for a spot in the top five.
