KANSAS CITY, MO. - The Kansas City Comets (7-1) are set to host the first professional indoor soccer game in Downtown Kansas City in over a decade on Saturday evening when they host the Tacoma Stars (2-3) at T-Mobile Center. The game coincides with the United Soccer Coaches Convention being held at the Kansas City Convention Center.

Tonight’s game will complete a home-and-home series which began last Sunday with an 8-7 Comets victory at the accesso ShoWare Center in Kent, WA. That win raised Kansas City’s all-time MASL record over the Stars to 5-3. The Comets are 4-2 vs Tacoma at home with the two losses coming last season in a pair of 6-5 games at Cable Dahmer Arena.

With last Sunday’s win, the Comets maintained a tie for best record in the MASL at 7-1 with the Florida Tropics, who are in action at home Friday night against a surging Dallas Sidekicks team. The biggest take-away from the team’s win in Tacoma, was a hat-trick scored by Leo Gibson despite playing while not felling 100%. He leads Comets’ scorers all-time against the Stars with 13 goals.

For the season, Gibson tops the squad in scoring and leads the league as well heading into Week 8 of the MASL 2021-22 campaign with 20 points (12G-8A). John Sosa matches Gibson’s team high in assists with eight and with his seven goals is second on the team in scoring with 15 points. Rian Marques (7G-3A) is the remaining Kansas City player with double-digit production in points.

Gibson stands on the doorstep of some incredible MASL regular-season milestones. His next goal will be the 200th of his career. He is just three assists away from 200, and four points shy of 400 for his career.

Nicolau Neto continues to lead the league in wins by goalkeepers with seven and stay in the Top 5 in goals-against-average (4.89) and save percentage (.725). His counterpart on the Stars, Danny Waltman, is 2-3 with a 6.12 GAA and .659 sv%.

Nick Perera leads Tacoma scorers and is second in the league in points as Week 8 gets underway with 19 points (12G-7A). The next closest on the team is Alessandro Canale with 10 points (9G-1A).
