Comets re-sign MASL MVP Rian Marques
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Comets are delighted to announce a two-year contract extension for Rian Marques, the MASL’s 2025-26 MVP. As per team and league policies, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Marques, who has spent his entire career with the Comets, returns after winning his first MVP award and Elite Six selection. The 6-foot-4 forward led the league in points (52), assists (23) and points per game (2.5), while ranking second in goals (33).
“I’m extremely happy to renew my contract,” Marques said. “Kansas City is my home away from Brazil, and I look forward to playing in front of Comets Nation for another two years. I will keep working and doing everything in my power to reach my ultimate goal of helping to bring a championship back to Kansas City.”
Marques, who helped Central Methodist University win the NAIA National Championship in 2019, originally signed for the Comets in 2021. Over the past six seasons, the Itabuna, Brazil native has tallied over 200 points across 128 regular-season and playoff appearances.
If the next two years are anything like the last two, Comets head coach Stefan Stokic knows he will have a strong target forward he can rely with hopes of reaching the team’s ultimate goal.
“We are very excited to re-sign Rian, our MVP, for the next two years,” Stokic said. “He had a great year last year, and we’re expecting him to have an even better year next year as not only as a goal scorer, but as a leader as well.”
The 2025-26 campaign marked the best of Marques’ career, although the previous one wasn’t far off. Marques led the Comets in scoring with 44 points (24 goals, 20 assists) for the first time in his career in 2024-25 until injuries derailed his first MVP-caliber season.
Marques’ recent tear has carried him further up the franchise’s leaderboard, ranking third in modern franchise history with 122 goals, which is the most by all active players.
After coming back even stronger this past season to finish off his MVP season, Marques remains set on chasing a Ron Newman Cup championship.
Marques and the Comets will return for the 2026-27 season of Hot Winter Nights later this year. Season tickets can be secured by visiting kccomets.com/seasontickets2627.
