The Kansas City Comets are delighted to announce the signing of 21-year-old former M2 prospect Leonardo Acosta to a three-year contract. Per league and team policies, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Acosta is the third MASL newcomer signed by the Comets ahead of the 2023-24 season, joining midfielder Cisco Lopez and goalkeeper Phillip Ejimadu. Acosta joined the Comets in preseason and shined in the team's closed-door exhibition against the Dallas Sidekicks.

"I'm super happy to be here," Acosta said. "From the first day I got here the coaching staff, my teammates and the fans made me feel right at home. I can't wait to go out there and play in front of our amazing fans."

The 6'1" midfielder joins the Comets with previous indoor experience, leading the Chicago Mustangs in points in the 2021 MASL 2 season when he tallied 25 points from 20 goals and five assists in 10 games.

At the age of 18, Acosta earned All-MASL 2 Second Team as he finished 2021 with a league-leading four power play goals, was fourth in points and fourth in goals across all of M2 that season. He credits his success to a Comets great who served as the Mustangs' coach.

"Playing M2 under Dino Delevski helped me tremendously," Acosta said. "His experience with indoor soccer and knowledge for the game is incredible. He gave me all the tools to succeed in the MASL."

A West Chicago, Illinois native and graduate of Addison Trail High School, Acosta played in the National Independent Soccer Association with Chicago House Athletic Club for the Fall 2021 season. With Chicago House AC, Acosta was a finalist for NISA Goal of the Year for his strike from distance against Maryland Bobcats FC.

He most recently played in the United Premier Soccer League with Panathinaikos Chicago, where he helped them to a second-place finish in the Midwest Central conference in the Fall 2023 season.

"We are very excited with this signing," said Comets head coach Stefan Stokic. "Acosta is a young and talented player. He is skillful, technical and can finish. We are expecting a lot from him and can't wait to see him grow."

Acosta could make his MASL debut in Sunday's season opener when the Milwaukee Wave come to Cable Dahmer Arena. Tickets are still available at kccomets.com/tickets.
