KANSAS CITY (Oct. 30, 2021) – The Kansas City Comets announced today that the club has signed former Omaha Kings FC standout midfielder, Ali Sodal to a two-year contract. Per team and league policies, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Sodal had a breakout season with the Kings of the MASL’s second division in 2021, culminating with a spot on the M2’s All-Second Team. In 14 games for Omaha, Sodal found the back of the net 20 times and assisted on 6 others for 26 points, which put him near the top of almost every scoring category. Last season, Sodal finished third in points, third in goals, third in power play goals, tied for first in shorthanded goals and tied for first in game-winning goals.

“I am super excited to be able to showcase my skills in the MASL’s highest level,” said Sodal. “I want to thank the Omaha Kings for preparing me to take this giant step in my professional indoor soccer career.”

The Omaha, NE native played collegiately for the Midland University Warriors in Freemont, NE. He was an NAIA Third Team in 2016, while scoring 24 goals in 21 games.

“Ali caught the coaching staff’s eye during the exhibition match back in August,” said Comets Managing Partner, Brian Budzinski. “The Omaha Kings organization is a very well-run franchise and we appreciate the professional relationship that led us to sign Ali.”

Sodal will make his Comets debut when the team takes on the Wichita Wings on Friday, Nov. 12th at 7pm in Game One of the Central Cup Tournament at Cable Dahmer Arena.
