INDEPENDENCE, MO. – The Kansas City Comets have kicked off their off-season player signing period with the announcement of the re-signing of forward Rian Marques to a new three-year deal. Per league and team policies, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The Brazilian-born Marques will be in his fourth season with the Comets when the 2023-24 campaign gets underway this fall. He joined the club in 2021 and was named to the MASL All-Rookie team with 15 points (12G-3A) in 12 regular-season games.

In all, Marques is averaging over a point per game in 45 regular-season appearances with 42 goals and 12 assists, good for 54 points. In 12 playoff games, Marques has tallied nine goals to go with a pair of assists.

His breakout season came during his second season which saw him total 30 points (21G-9A) in 18 games. He added four goals and two assists in six post-season games to cap off his sophomore season with the Comets.

Marques has established himself as a solid MASL player and Comets head coach Stefan Stokic is ready to watch him continue to build on his successes.

“I am excited to have a player of Rian’s caliber and quality and I look forward to seeing him grow as a player on and off the field and being a force in the league,” Stokic said.

The enthusiasm is shared by Marques who said “I’m very excited to continue my career in red and white. I have been preparing myself for this next season and I cannot wait to be in front of the best fans in the league again. I only have one goal these next few years and it is to help the team bring the Championship to Kansas City.”
