COMETS SUFFER OVERTIME LOSS TO CLOSE OUT THREE-GAME WEEKEND

by Jeff Husted

ST. CHARLES, Missouri (December 16, 2018) – The long weekend for the Kansas City Comets came to a disappointing close this afternoon in front of 4,750 fans at The Family Arena in the suburbs of St. Louis this afternoon. Kiel Williams and Lucas Rodriguez each had two goals and Leo Gibson scored a highlight reel worthy bicycle kick for the Comets, however it wasn’t enough as they fall in the overtime period.

The Comets played their third game in four days in a weekend that started Thursday evening outside of Toronto, Ontario Canada, then continued last night in Kansas City and concluded today in St. Charles.

The day started off well when Leo Gibson converted an incredible bicycle kick from a difficult angle only a minute and a half into the game. Kiel Williams scored two more to end the first quarter before Lucas Rodriguez added his first goal in the 2nd quarter. The Comets went into the halftime break with a 4-0 lead.

In the second half, the Ambush took advantage of the Comets fatigue and pressured the Kansas City defense relentlessly. Goalkeeper Brett Petricek stood tall and put in one of his best performances yet as a member of the Comets. St Louis peppered Kansas City with 22 shots in the second half.

The Ambush scored four straight goals in the 3rd and fourth quarters to tie the game. Rodriguez scored his second of the match with 4:24 left in regulation to regain the lead. The Ambush inserted the sixth attacker and were able to tie the game with only 37 seconds remaining. Clearly tired, the Comets found several opportunities in the extra period, but only St Louis’ Corey Adamson was able to find the back of the net.

The Comets will look for revenge next week when they host these same Ambush at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena on December 22. The match is scheduled to kick off from Sport Shake field at 7:05pm. Tickets are still available here.
