by Pete Richmire

November 11, 2021 – The Kansas City Comets will open the 2021 Central Cup tomorrow at 7:05 pm as they welcome the Wichita Wings to Cable Dahmer Arena. This is the second annual tournament which also features the Omaha Kings FC and St. Louis Ambush. The Comets won last year’s Central Cup by posting a 3-0 record in the round-robin tournament.

During last year’s meeting, which took place at Hartman Arena, home of the Wings, Kansas City overcame a 1-0 deficit in the first quarter with eight unanswered goals, cruising to an 8-1 win. Kevin Ellis netted a hat-trick which earned him the First Star of the game. Kansas City out-shot Wichita by a decisive 41-17 margin during the contest.

Of the 2020 Central Cup squad, only three players are not returning, and Comets fans will be introduced to roster additions Lesia Thetsane, Ali Sodal, and Eduardo ‘Benji’ Monreal. Monreal competed for Wichita last season during the Central Cup.

The Comets will wrap-up the 2021 Central Cup on Saturday, November 13 at The Family Arena at 3:30 pm vs Omaha. The 2021-22 MASL regular-season will also kick-off in that building as the Comets battle the St. Louis Ambush on Friday, November 26 at 5:05 pm before their home-opener the next night at 6 pm against the same Ambush team.

Tickets for the Central Cup game and all 2021-22 regular-season games are available at Ticketmaster.
