The Kansas City Comets (3-2-2) are looking for their first road win of the season in a New Year’s Eve clash with the St. Louis Ambush (2-3-0) on Saturday.

The I-70 series has favored the Comets this season, but the Comets will need their first road win of the season to keep the edge. Kansas City won both matches at Cable Dahmer Arena while the Ambush won the only contest at The Family Arena.

The Comets enter Saturday’s contest coming from a 6-5 overtime loss to the Monterrey Flash. Trailing by two at halftime, the Comets managed to erase the two-goal deficit 46 seconds into the third period.

Down 5-4 for much of the fourth quarter, Leo Gibson’s second goal of the night sent the contest to overtime to reserve a point for both sides, but the Flash took the extra point when Luis Ángel Mendoza scored the overtime winner.

John Sosa leads the Comets in points with 13 from two goals and a league-leading 11 assists. Lucas Sousa follows with 12 points from seven goals and five assists.

The Ambush will have fresh legs for Saturday’s match, last playing on December 17 when they took a 7-4 defeat to the Comets.

St. Louis will be without JT Thomas (achilles) with Tony Walls (knee) questionable. Former Comet Kevin Ellis (knee) is probable alongside Stefan Mijatovic (knee), Robby Kristo (elbow) and Greg Kranz (foot).

Duduca Carvalho and Robert Kristo are tied for an Ambush-leading five points, with the pair recording three goals and two assists each.

St. Louis also has a new addition to their roster with the signing of former Maryville University player Billy Stimac. Stimac could make his MASL debut against the Comets.

The Ambush have won both of their home games in overtime this season, beating the Comets 6-5 and the Baltimore Blast 4-3. In three attempts this season, the Comets have one overtime win.

Following Saturday’s game, the Comets return home for a meeting with the Tacoma Stars on Saturday, January 7. Tickets are available at www.kccomets.com/tickets.
