ELLIS NAMED MASL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

KANSAS CITY (Jan. 16, 2020) For his five-goal performance in Kansas City’s 14-6 defeat of the Orlando Seawolves, Kevin Ellis was named the Major Arena Soccer League Player of the Week. Ellis was one of two Comets nominated for the award, alongside coach Leo Gibson, who scored twice and bagged four assists against Orlando.

The Player of the Week is awarded by a hybrid vote involving fans and the teams. Ellis is the first Comet to win the award this season. Gibson and Nacho Flores were also named on the Team of the Week.

Ellis is in his second season in the MASL, having played 10 games for the Comets in 2018/2019. A Kansas City native, Ellis spent eight years in the MLS, mostly with Sporting KC, but also with the Chicago Fire, D.C. United and others. As an arena rookie, he was named one of the MASL’s Top Newcomers last season.

The Orlando game was just Ellis’ second of the season, as he joined the team late. His season debut was an 8-3 loss to the Milwaukee Wave, and he’ll be back in the lineup as Kansas City takes on Milwaukee Friday, 7:05 p.m., at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
