KANSAS CITY COMETS HEAD ON SOUTHWEST TOUR
Team set to take on Soles de Sonora and El Paso Coyotes over Weekend
KANSAS CITY (February 23, 2018) – The Kansas City Comets head south for a weekend tour of the Major Arena Soccer League’s Southwest Division. The team heads to Hermosillo, Mexico to play Soles de Sonora on Saturday, February 24 at 8:05 p.m. CT. Then on Sunday, the Comets travel to El Paso, Texas to play the Coyotes at 6:05 p.m. CT.
The Comets head into the weekend with a renewed sense of confidence after getting an 8-7 victory over the Harrisburg Heat last weekend. Seven different players scored goals for Kansas City in that match. Goalkeeper Mark Saxby chipped in with two assists in the game and also earned his first professional career win.
So far this season, the team is led by Leo Gibson in nearly every statistical offensive category. He has 23 goals, 23 assists (46 points) and is averaging 2.6 points per game. He currently ranks 5th in the league in points, 9th in goals and 4th in assists.
The Comets will have their work cut out for them defensively. Soles de Sonora is led by Franck Tayou who is the MASL’s record holder for goals in a season. He goes into the weekend with 64 goals. Sonora is giving up nearly nine goals per game.
El Paso came into this season after not earning a single win in their inaugural season. They have flipped the script in 2017-2018 and have been one of the tougher matchups to come out of the Southwest Division. They have a record of 9-10 this season and are led by midfielder Christian Gutierrez with 28 goals.
Both games this weekend can be seen live on MASLtv, KCComets.com/live-feed or on the MASL app available for iOS and Android platforms.
