Veteran Returns for ninth season with the Comets
KANSAS CITY (August 6, 2018) – The Kansas City Comets announced the return of Stefan Stokic for the 2018-2019 season. Per team and league policies, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The long-time indoor veteran returns for his ninth season with the Comets. He joins Leo Gibson, Lucas Rodriguez and Bryan Perez as the only members of the 2010-2011 original Comets squad still with the team.
Although limited to only five games last season due to a knee injury, Stokic has made a name for himself in the Comets record books. He has made 129 regular season appearances (T-6th), has 53 points (14th) and holds the record for most blocks with this version of the Comets (130).
Head Coach Kim Roentved commented on the return of Stokic, “Stefan is a guy I can always count on when I need him. He will go anywhere and play any position I ask him to and he will do it with all of his effort. He has never been afraid to throw his body in front of a shot and do whatever is necessary to keep us at our best.”
Against the Tacoma Stars on December 8, 2017, Stokic suffered a tear to his right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) that caused him to miss most of last season. Prior to the injury, Stokic had already accumulated 13 blocks on the season and was on pace for his best season as a professional.
“I’m a team player,” said Stokic. “I’m always ready to go where Kim (Roentved) tells me and do what the teams needs to win. My recovery has been going great and I am looking forward to being back and better than before.”
The Kansas City Comets will open their 12-game home schedule at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena on December 15th. The opponent and the rest of the schedule will be announced this fall.
Season Tickets are available now and single game and group tickets will be available soon. For more information about the Kansas City Comets, be sure to follow the team on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram or check out KCComets.com
