KANSAS CITY (August 27, 2018) – The Kansas City Comets, along with the rest of the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL), mourn the passing of an arena soccer icon. We are saddened to hear about the passing of Ron Newman.

While his San Diego Sockers teams were often a thorn in the side of the early Comets teams, the innovations he brought to the game and the passion he showed for his team, the league and his players demanded respect from even his biggest rivals.

“The man was an absolute legend,” said Comets Head Coach Kim Roentved. “In addition to his championships, he was a truly great person. I enjoyed getting to know him over the years on a personal level and his presence will truly be missed.“

The thoughts and prayers of the Comets staff and players are with the Newman family at this time.
