KANSAS CITY COMETS TO PLAY IN SOUTH CENTRAL DIVISION FOR 2018-2019

MASL’s two Florida-based teams join KC, Milwaukee and St Louis

KANSAS CITY (August 15, 2018) – The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced the conference and division alignments for the upcoming 2018-2019 season this afternoon. Just as in previous seasons, the 17 teams vying for the 2019 Ron Newman Cup will be split into four divisions and two conferences.

The Comets will once again be matched up against their rivals, the Milwaukee Wave and the St Louis Ambush, but this year the two Florida-based teams (Florida Tropics and Orlando SeaWolves) will also be joining the division. With the new additions, the division becomes the South Central Division.

“The Wave and Ambush are the games that get circled on everyone’s calendar when the schedule comes out, and I think it’s going to be good to add Florida and Orlando to that list,” said head coach Kim Roentved. “We’ve had a couple of great games against the Tropics the last couple of years and we already have a familiarity with the guys in Orlando since they were in Cedar Rapids last year.”

The rest of the MASL landscape will see a few changes as well. The Eastern Division will be a battle throughout. After moving up the road, Utica City FC is loading up to make a divisional run, while their neighbors to the north are set to become the first Canadian team in the MASL, playing in Mississauga’s Paramount Fine Foods Centre. The Harrisburg Heat have a new coach and a new approach to their season, meanwhile everyone will still be gunning for the three-time champion, Baltimore Blast.

In the Western Conference, the Dallas Sidekicks will make their return to the MASL as they re-join their fellow Texas neighbors and last season’s Ron Newman Cup Finalists, the Monterrey Flash, in the Southwest Division. The Pacific division is the only one to remain unchanged from last season.

The Kansas City Comets will open their 12-game home schedule at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena on December 15th. The opponent and the rest of the schedule will be announced this fall.

Season Tickets are available now and single game and group tickets will be available soon. For more information about the Kansas City Comets, be sure to follow the team on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram or check out KCComets.com
