KANSAS CITY (July 6, 2021) – The Kansas City Comets announced today that the club will be hosting its first ever 5K Run/Walk on Saturday morning, August 21st. The race will take place in and around Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, MO starting at 7:30am and end inside on the Comets blue turf where participants will be able to watch themselves cross the finish line on the arena video boards. Later that day, the Comets will take on the Omaha Kings FC in an exhibition match at the arena beginning at 6pm. The match will be broadcast for free on the MASL Facebook Live page.

All KC Comets 5K racers/walkers will receive a race t-shirt, a specially-designed medal and tickets to the evening exhibition match which kicks off at 6pm. Proceeds from the race benefit Team Fidelis, a charity whose mission is to prevent suicide among service members, veterans and their families. (Link to the race registration and information). All age group winners will be recognized at halftime of the evening’s exhibition match. Comets players and members of the Comets Girls Dance Team will be among those participating in the race.

The exhibition match against Omaha Kings FC of the Major Arena Soccer League’s Division 2 will be the first action for the Comets since losing a thrilling and heartbreaking three-game semifinal playoff series against the Ontario Fury in early April. All seats for the game are just $14 and tickets can be purchased by calling the Comets front office at 888-9-COMETS or by visiting ticketmaster.com.

Comets Head Coach, Leo Gibson is looking forward to the early preseason warmup for his team. “I know that the guys will be excited to get back to playing at the arena and in front of our fans, Gibson said. “We know that the team will be a little rusty, but that’s why we have exhibition games so that we can begin the process of getting ready for the regular season in November.”

COVID restrictions have been lifted at Cable Dahmer Arena, with masks and social distancing no longer required for events at the Independence, MO facility.
