LOCAL YOUTH STAR CISCO LOPEZ JR SIGNS WITH COMETS

by Pete Richmire

INDEPENDENCE, MO. - The Kansas City Comets reached into the local talent pool and pulled out a gem today with the announcement of signing 20-year-old forward Cisco Lopez Jr to a three-year contract. Per league and team policies, the terms of the agreement with the Oak Park High School alum were not disclosed.

Following his graduation from Kansas City’s Oak Park High School Northmen, Lopez spent time in the USL League One with Central Valley Fuego FC in Fresno, CA. It was the return of professional soccer to the city and the team advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open Cup during that first year in operation.

In addition to nine years spent with Sporting KC Development Academy, Lopez also suited up for LA Galaxy Development Academy during the 2020 season. His skills not only placed him with two MLS Academy teams, but they also took him overseas as noted by Comets’ head coach Stefan Stokic.

“He started playing for the Kansas City Legends at the age of nine until he was 15. Sporting KC reached out and he played for their youth academy team until he was 18 and moved to pursue his dreams playing in Europe,” Stokic noted.

One of those skills is speed, which is a constant threat to defenders in the MASL. Stokic believes that will serve Lopez well during the next three years in a Comets uniform.

Stokic said, “We are excited to have Cisco as a part of the KC Comets for the next three years. He is a young talent with a lot of potential. With his skill set and quickness, I see a bright future for him in the MASL and with the Comets.”

As for hitting the field with his hometown team, one can say Lopez is more than ready.

“I am honored to be able to represent such a beautiful organization and I can’t wait to get started and make some noise. I want to speak on behalf of the Kansas City Comets that we are coming for it all. Vamos con todo,” said Lopez.
