MATT LEWIS RETURNS TO COMETS

KANSAS CITY (December 14, 2021) – The Kansas City Comets announced today that defender, Matt Lewis has signed a partial-season contract with the club. Per team and league policies, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

This season will be Lewis’s third with the Comets. In the two seasons prior, Lewis played in 20 total regular season games, netting 8 goals and 7 assists while playing from the defensive side. During last year’s playoffs, Lewis scored 1 goal and 1 assist in the two-game series against the St. Louis Ambush.

Lewis had a stellar collegiate career at NCAA DI Fordham, setting program records in both starts and appearances. He was a three-time Atlantic-10 all-conference selection and was named conference defensive player of the year as a senior. A product of Sporting KC's Development Academy, Lewis was signed to Sporting KC in 2018 before being loaned out to the Swope Park Rangers.

Lewis returns to the Comets after having spent the past outdoor season with Detroit City FC, formerly a member of the NISA (National Independent Soccer Association) but will join the USL Championship (the 2^nd division of men’s pro soccer in the U.S.) for the 2022 season. Lewis scored Detroit City’s first ever professional goal while starting and appearing in 27 games last season for Detroit City, scoring 5 times. Lewis will be on loan to the Comets until he has to return to Detroit City in February.

Lewis will be in uniform this Sunday when the 3-0 Comets take on the Baltimore Blast at 4pm at Cable Dahmer Arena.
